Apple and Tomato Chutney

  • 2 lbs Apples peeled, cored, sliced
  • 2 lbs Tomatoes sliced
  • ¾ lbs Onions skimmed, chopped
  • 1 clove Garlic
  • ¾ lbs Demerara Sugar
  • ½ lb Dried fruit eg sultanas
  • ½ oz Mustard seed in muslin bag
  • ½ oz Curry powder
  • 1 tsp Cayenne powder level teaspoon
  • 1 oz Salt
  • pts Malt Vinegar


  1. Stew Apples in small quantity of water

    Put apples, tomatoes, onions, garlic, dried fruit, sugar, spices, salt and vinegar into a pan. Bring to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer until thick and there is no free liquid

    Remove muslin bag.

    Pot chutney and cover.

    Leave to settle for at least two weeks before consuming
