A delicious Gujarati style Dal

Ingredients

  • 340 g split chick peas
  • 340 g yellow lentils
  • 340 g moong beans
  • vegetable oil as required
  • 340 g tomatoes
  • 1/4 tsp garlic paste
  • 2 red chilli small
  • 700 ml water
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 Tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped
  • 1 lime juiced

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the chick peas, moong beans and yellow lentils for an hour

  2. Drain the water and transfer the lentils in a pressure cooker. Add turmeric powder and water.

  3. Cook the dal mixture until they becomes tender. Then, mash the mixture

  4. Heat a large pan with approx 2 Tbsp of vegetable oil.  Once heated, add cumin seeds, when it starts crackling add red chilli, powder, ginger and garlic paste. Saute them for few seconds.

  5. Add chopped tomatoes and stir the mixture. Add chili powder and saute again for another 3-4 minutes or until the tomatoes becomes soft. 

  6. Once done, transfer the cooked lentils in the mixture along with water and salt. Mix them well and simmered for 7 minutes.

  7. Add lime juice and chopped coriander leaves, stir then serve hot with Roti or chapati
