Kale

Kale

Kale is a type of cabbage with green or purple leaves but it does not form a head like some cabbages. Kale is of great nutritional value and is very hardy. It is also tolerant of most pests and diseases.

  • How To Eat
  • Dig the soil, remove all weeds and add compost or well rotted manure.
  • Make ½ inch deep trench and space seeds 3 inches apart between march and June.
  • Cover seeds with soil and then water the trench
  • As seedlings develop, space - to final positions 1-1 ½ foot apart.
  • Water well when transplanting & if weather very dry.
  • Feed with a water soluble, high nitrogen feed & remove weeds.
  • Harvest leaves by removing young leaves from October.
  • Raw – some young leaves can be added to coleslaw & salads.
  • Cooked –steamed, stir fried, used as a parcel to steam other foods.
