Keep compost evenly moist – water little and often. Train main stem up a vertical wire or cane & pinch out growing shoot once at maximum height. Pinch outside shoots 2 leaves beyond female flower (fruit swelling behind) & pinch flowerless side shoots at 2 feet. Water floor to keep humidity high. Feed with balanced liquid fertiliser every 2 weeks once flowering. Cut fruits to harvest. Raw –Sliced and peeled (prevents it repeating on you!!) in a mixed salad. Serve as a garnish, side salad, crudités, dip & even soup. Cucumber Chutney Peel cucumber, remove seeds & cut into pieces. Add to a blender with 2 green chillies, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 4 cloves of garlic, tamarind and blend to a coarse paste. Mix ½ tsp oil, pinch of mustard seeds, 2 dry red chillies, 1 tsp urad dal, 1 sprig curry leaves – once brown add to the cucumber mixture. Serve with hot rice or naan bread.
